Upstairs, downstairs.
These clients loved gardening. They had lived in the lower ground floor flat for a number of years, which had level access with a private rear garden and shared park garden beyond. They also had an allotment nearby and the process of nurturing and relocating plants between the house and allotment was constant.
They had recently acquired the flat above and wanted to merge the two together to form a single dwelling.
They had always loved how verdant the setting of their home was within the city and wanted the newly acquired upper floor rooms to benefit from a strong connection with the rear garden. A single storey rear extension was introduced, with glazed doors leading onto the garden. The rooftop offered an opportunity for well placed roof-lights and of course more planting. This increased light to the lower ground rooms, whilst allowing the roof and the garden beyond to seemingly coalesce when viewed from the upper floor rooms.
We also developed a new basement area to accommodate a home gym, movie room and a pretty special wine cellar.
