From humble beginnings.
This was a project for my parents. They had purchased a bungalow and wanted to convert it into a comfortable home for their retirement.
The brief was simple. They wanted a house that was super insulated, constructed in healthy and natural materials, would be low maintenance and could house their antique furniture and belongings from a 14th Century farm house.
The roof line was raised by 1m to allow for a bedroom in the roof space with an en-suite and separate dressing area. All modern additions were constructed in timber frame and clad with larch cladding to distinguish the new from the old. The large single storey rear extension roof was finished in a sedum blanket.
Triple glazed windows and doors throughout, with underfloor heating running from an air source heat pump.
The design was to be contemporary, but would allow for the furniture collected and inherited from a lifetime.
